I love it when randomly searching Cl leads me to something I've never seen before. Tonight it was a Monte Carlo Aero Coupe SS.

the areo coupe was a neat car, it was built specifically for nascar use. the new rear glass was way more aerodynamic. they built just enough to meet nascars production requirement.

yeah that was its whole purpose, the new thunderbirds just creamed the montes at Daytona and dega. the aero coupe was just a band aid car till the lumina was introduced in 1989

I'm just surprised that the rear window like that lasted that long. I mean I'm pretty sure they figured out that a straight up and down rear window was aerodynamically horrible in the 70's, or even the 60's.

well technically chevy wasn't involved in any form of racing at all following the AMA ban of 1963 that GM put in place. So technically no factory involvement was supposed to take place that created race cars. Luckily there were a handful of engineers and just enough in the management to push these types of cars through. Also the monte was the only car from chevy that fit the new rules in nascar when they downsized from the full size cars, so it was never originally designed to race.

but it was an interesting, and fitting choice. I like that they even painted the car. I mean really can you think of a better choice of vehicle for White's boring pre-crime lord life? the only other vehicle I can picture taking it's place would be an old Lumina van. But having only one kid. owning a mini van wouldn't make much since for Walt.
